From the Outer Banks Flotilla of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary

The Outer Banks Flotilla of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering a Coast Guard-approved Boating course in February, 2022.  The six-session Boating Skills and Seamanship course builds on the introductory Boat America class, providing more in-depth exposure to key topics related to safe boating operations.

Topics covered in the course will include Boat Handling and Trailering, Advanced Navigation, Boating safety, Radio Communications, Lines & knots, Situational awareness, Rules of the Road, and Handling Emergency Situations.

Upon course completion, participants will receive their NC State Boating Safety class completion certificate, which is required for any boat operator born after 1987.

Classes will be held on the following Wednesday & Thursday evenings:  2/9, 2/10, 2/16, 2/17, 2/23, and 2/24.

Each session will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will last approximately three hours.

All classes will be held at the Southern Shores Fire Department at 15 S. Dogwood Trail, Southern Shores, NC, and the classes satisfy North Carolina boat operator education requirements.

All segments will be taught by Certified Coast Guard Auxiliary Instructors with years of on-the-water experience, and a few good stories to share.

The tuition is $50.00/person ($35.00 for each additional family member) and includes a textbook and all materials.
